Recently picked up Marie Kondo's The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up: The Japanese Art of Decluttering and Organizing...

I do have to say, it's quite an interesting read. Granted, the book isn't that hard to get through--it's a compilation of all her advice, and meant to demonstrate her tidying and decluttering methods. Furthermore, it's not like any of this is new--Kondo seems to advocate quite a bit of purging and overall, minimalism in her book. (As a bit of a hoarder myself, I can attest that I probably hold too many things in storage for my own good...)

I haven't finished the book yet, but am getting quite close. Some of her comments are quite amusing (especially where she mentions how she used to purge her siblings' and parents' items without asking, and even bluntly justifying her reasons when it was revealed that she was the culprit). Some are common sense.

But some of the passages really did move my heart a little. I don't have the exact quote in front of me (will probably add later), but she emphasizes the importance of living in the 'present'. When you organize and declutter, you are ultimately purging your space--your living space that you breathe and live in NOW--from the unnecessary mess and "junk" from the past. To shape your own life in the very way that you want it, you need to create your own space--a space that is you. Don't think about throwing away past mementos/things as 'wasteful'. You've already learned from your past--the things/people/activities that you do or don't like--and the most important thing to do now is to ultimately engage in your present self. After all, you are the only person in this world who owes it to yourself to be happy.

I can't say that I'm ready to purge my entire room yet (I'd dread it LOL)...but it did encourage me today to start getting rid of things in my drawers that honestly won't ever see the light of day.

TBD....maybe?
